In Memoriam 9/11
Avery Fisher Hall, New York
We all remember what we were doing on 11 September 2001 when the news broke of not one but two aeroplanes crashing into the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center. Ten years on there will be commemorative events all over the world, and members of The Really Big Chorus have been offered the opportunity to travel to New York to take part in one of these: a memorial concert at New York’s Lincoln Center.
Not only will we perform Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, with its themes of peace and reconciliation and the horrors of war, but we have also been asked to give the Amercan première of Jenkins’ For the Fallen. This is a setting of Binyon’s familiar text, first performed in the UK at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2010.
Karl Jenkins himself will conduct us in New York, and you are invited to be part of this very special commemoration.
