Messiah from Scratch®
Royal Albert Hall
Messiah from Scratch® was, for some people, the best it has ever been. Sir David Willcocks, approaching his ninetieth birthday, conducted with more energy than is sometimes displayed by people twenty years his junior; your generosity at the Hallelujah Chorus Auction raised a staggering amount for the British Heart Foundation (click here to read the press-release); and an on-stage birthday cake and a post-concert reception brought a memorable evening to its close.
For this 35th anniversary performance of Messiah from Scratch, the soloists were soprano Claire Watkins, mezzo-soprano Helen Sherman, tenor James Geer and baritone Marcus Farnsworth. The orchestra was the English Festival Orchestra, led by Adrian Levine.
