THE SCRATCH® GLORIOUS LISBON
‘The Se’ (Santa Maria Maior), Lisbon
Beethoven: ‘Kyrie’ and ‘Gloria’ from the Mass in C
Beethoven: Symphony no. 2
Our first-ever outing to Portugal was a resounding success, with a capacity audience in the Sé de Lisboa (Lisbon Cathedral) enjoying the Portuguese première of Karl Jenkins’ Gloria, together with movements from Beethoven’s Mass in C, accompanied by the Orquestra Clássica do Centro from Coimbra (opens in a new window) and conducted by Brian Kay. Rachel Redmond was our delightful soprano soloist.
Proceeds from the concert (roughly 850 euros) benefitted a local children’s’ charity, Ajuda de Berço (opens in a new window). We were also blessed with exceptionally mild weather, which made exploring this elegant city a real treat.
