Our second trip to New York was with a much smaller group of singers, 30 in total, which formed part of a massed chorus to perform the world première of Karl Jenkins’ The Peacemakers, presented by Distinguished Concerts International New York, and conducted by the composer. Many of our singers had taken part in the recording session at Abbey Road in June of last year. The venue was the glorious Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall, and we shared the stage with singers from the USA, Australia and Guernsey, amongst other places. The children’s choir was provided by All Saints Church, Phoenix.

The first half of the concert, conducted by DCINY’s Artistic Director, Jonathan Griffith, featured some of Karl’s earlier orchestral works, including the Violin Concerto with soloist Jorge Avila. We also heard the first USA performance of a set of piano preludes composed by Karl’s wife Carole Barrett, performed by Danny Evans.
