Sunday 9 July 2017
Royal Albert Hall, 7.00pm
One of Christianity’s oldest hymns of praise, the words ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ were, by tradition, sung by the angels who announced the birth of Christ to the shepherds. The joyful text has been set by countless composers as part of the Latin Mass, but also as a piece of music in its own right.
For its summer concert, The Really Big Chorus performs three popular settings of these words, by Vivaldi, Rutter and Jenkins, with full symphony orchestra and young prize-winning soloists. If you’re a singer you can join the chorus for a stimulating day’s rehearsal prior to the concert (click here for full details); if you’d like to sit in the audience for a guaranteed uplifting experience then we’d be delighted to welcome you. Tickets for both singers and audience can be reserved via our booking form; audience tickets will be available from the Royal Albert Hall from February 2017.
