Acquiring the music
You need to bring your own score, as doing some advance homework on this music will increase the enjoyment of the Summer School for all participants (we will also not have multiple copies for sale at the start of the course). Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius is sung in English and is published by Novello (if you already have an old blue and white edition, or can get one from a library, it is much less heavy than the newer red and white edition, and both are compatible). If your local music shop cannot help (or you don’t have one), then the extremely knowledgeable staff at Blackwell’s Music Shop in Oxford will certainly be able to do so (01865 333582).  For help with your homework you might like to acquire a ChoraLine CD or MPs file: visit their website at There is no additional charge for music for the afternoon workshops, for which a complete booklet will be supplied on registration.

Our musical team
The musicians in charge of the TRBC Summer School will be The Really Big Chorus’s Principal Conductor Brian Kay, aided and abetted by Christopher Finch, Director of Chapel Choir and Accompanist at Wells Cathedral School (click on the links to read their biographies).  Orchestral accompaniment for the concert on Saturday 12 August will be provided by the English Symphony Orchestra, and we will announce our team of soloists in the new year.

Plus points
In addition to the rehearsals, workshops and closing concert, we have arranged a few ‘extras’ to add to your enjoyment of the Summer School.  There will be a visit to Stratford upon Avon to see the Royal Shakespeare Company (details at the beginning of 2017), a ‘mystery guest’ interviewed by Brian Kay, and a celebratory feast.
