The Really Big Chorus (TRBC) is Britain's largest choral society, made up of singers from hundreds of different choirs, as well as individuals who have taken part in other events organised by Concerts from Scratch. There are 8,500 people on the mailing list, representing an estimated 35,000 singing members, including individuals and groups from all parts of Britain, as well as from Europe and the USA. All proceeds from programmes, sponsorship and collections at our Royal Albert Hall events are given to charity, and over the last thirty years many thousands of pounds have been raised for The British Heart Foundation and Leukaemia Research. We are delighted to welcome the Alzheimer's Society as a new charity partner this year.

Each year The Really Big Chorus promotes three major concerts in the Royal Albert Hall, accompanied by The English Festival Orchestra. An annual feature is the famous Messiah from Scratch®, which regularly attracts over 3,000 singers. We celebrated its thirtieth anniversary on Advent Sunday 2004. The two other performances during the summer of 2007 were the Brahms Requiem and Elgar's Dream of Gerontius. Our 2008 Messiah from Scratch® will be on 15 November. At the start of each season auditions are held for prize-winning young soloists, many of whom go on to become international stars.

TRBC also runs occasional choral workshops and informal 'Singday' performances, and, since 1999, has organised choral festivals in other European cities such as Leipzig, Venice, Barcelona, Vienna, Paris, Salzburg, Prague Seville and Rome, and musical cruises to the Baltic, the Caribbean, the Norwegian Fjords and the Mediterranean. March 2006 saw our first ever trip to China, to perform Messiah in the Forbidden City Concert Hall with the Beijing Xinkongqi Orchestra. This had to be repeated in October of the same year, such was the demand. In 2007 we performed Haydn's Creation in Cape Town. These events offer fantastic opportunities to visit spectacular places and to make music in unusual or historic venues; you are also guaranteed the chance to make friends with like-minded musical people.

Anyone can sing, and with TRBC you are assured of safety in numbers! As rehearsal time is very limited, we ask that you know the notes before you arrive, although we do run occasional London workshops for those people who need a little help learning the music.
