The award-winning British pianist/conductor Maria Marchant performs frequently for numerous festivals, music societies and at leading venues in the UK and abroad including Cadogan Hall, Champs Hill, Konzerthaus (Berlin), Southbank Centre, St David’s Hall (Cardiff), St John’s Smith Square, Steinway Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Wigmore Hall and the Y Theatre (Hong Kong). A BBC Music Magazine ‘Rising Star’, her performances have been featured on radio stations worldwide and on BBC television. Maria is pianist-in-residence in the Shipley Arts Festival; she frequently collaborates with composers and has had numerous pieces written for her including works by Roderick Williams OBE. Maria’s debut SOMM Recordings CD, Echoes of Land & Sea, was released in 2017 and her ground-breaking second album for SOMM, Bantock Rediscovered, featuring music by Sir Granville Bantock never before recorded on disc, reached No. 15 in the Official Classical Chart.

Maria won numerous piano competitions at Trinity College of Music in addition to the Conducting Prize before gaining the MMus in Advanced Piano Performance at the Royal College of Music as an RCM Hilda Anderson Deane Scholar and BBC Performing Arts Fund Award recipient. She also won Gold Medal and First Prize in the International Hindemith Competition, Berlin, and was selected as an artist on the Concordia, Tillett Trust and Park Lane Group schemes resulting in Wigmore and Southbank appearances. Her teachers include Alexander Ardakov, Philip Colman, Niel Immelman and Yonty Solomon.

Maria has performed for HRH Duchess of Cornwall, celebrities and patients in hospital; she is ambassador for the Concordia Foundation and a member of the Artistic Committee for PLG. 2019-2020 season performance highlights include Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto with the Worthing Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Gibbons and solo recitals for Gloucester Music Society and at the Lansdowne Club as part of the Blüthner Piano Centre Series. Conducting engagements include the Lodge Hill Christmas fundraiser with special guests Dame Julie Walters and Julia Donaldson CBE, and conducting the All Souls Choir & Orchestra in a live BBC One Show broadcast in addition to leading regular services and events as Choir Leader at All Souls Church.
