Creation (old Novello edition)

For this performance, we will use the old Novello edition of Haydn's Creation

Sunday 8 May 2011

Royal Albert Hall, 7.00/8.15 pm

Details for singers

You need to bring your own scores, since it will not be possible to purchase them on the day. The Creation will be sung in English and is published by Novello; the edition we use, and to which page numbers in the notes refer, is the old Novello edition edited by Vincent Novello (ISMN 0-8536-0505-X).  Please do not try and sing from the new Novello edition, edited by Michael Pilkington, because the words are totally different. If your local music shop cannot supply a copy, then you can order from Music Dynamics either by telephone on 01242 679379 or via their ChoraLine website. Music Dynamics also offer CDs and cassettes to enable you to learn your part in advance.

To help you arrive prepared and ready to sing, we have compiled a page of chorus instructions which we ask you to copy into the appropriate pages in your scores. These notes are sent automatically to anyone whose booking application includes a stamped-addressed envelope, and they will also be sent when we post your tickets. However, you can also download them here (if you want to print them you will need one A4 page).

Dress for the concert in the Royal Albert Hall should be elegant. Gentlemen usually wear suits, or sometimes a dinner jacket, and ladies are asked to abide by the TRBC colour code: something including blue for sopranos, and something with red for altos. To get an idea, browse the photographs of Messiah from Scratch® in November 2009. If you need to choose comfort over elegance then you might like to consider one of our colour-coded TRBC polo shirts (you can download an order form here).
