Athenian Adventure

The trip to Athens was a notable success, not least because of the warm welcome given to us by our Athenian choral hosts, Choir Musica. Haydn’s Creation delighted the audience in the Christos Lambrakis Hall – one of the best-designed concert halls anywhere in Europe. As one singer put it ‘I have never before sung The Creation at such a speed and it worked marvellously!’.

Conductor Brian Kay, Principal Conductor of The Really Big Chorus, was, as ever, a delight to work with, charming the Greek singers and orchestral players alike into giving of their best in spite of a few language difficulties. Our superb team of soloists did us proud: thank you to soprano Sandra Power, tenor William Wallace and bass-baritone Frederick Long, all familiar faces from our UK concerts.

‘Thank you, from a total newbie with The Really Big Chorus … that concert was just fabulous’ (Jessany M.)

‘Athens was, we think, the best trip ever. Every detail was simply perfect – you do a most brilliant job.’ (Prue A.)

‘Singing The Creation in Athens was a peak experience for me, matching Messiah from Scratch® at its best. I hope that TRBC continues to invite choirs from other countries to join us.’ (Bob R.)
